Maryland Exiles Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 7s is held the Saturday after Thanksgiving and normally includes
a Social, Really Social and High School division. The elite division winners take home the Charlie Nortje Trophy.
“The Charlie Cup” honors one of Maryland’s greatest flyhalves who suffered a brain aneurysm during a match
and died. Charlie, also known affectionately as 'Chunk', 24, was a standout player with Port Elizabeth, South Africa's famed Grey College.
He had been with the club only a short while but made a lasting impression with Maryland's friends and supporters.
